This exciting tour can be tackled in 2 ways ...

for the not so faint hearted we can do it in the old way with 4x4 vehicles hooked up with off road trailers and roof top tents, or ...

we can arrange for 5 star accommodation all along the way at different lodges that we will pre determine depending availability of space and on the size of your group - with a minimum of 10 adults.







With your arrival at Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, you will be received by representatives of The African Experience Company, they will transport you from the airport to a choice of either a 5 star Spa or a Game Farm for 2 nights to recover from your long flight.

On the morning of your third day you will take ownership of your off road vehicle and equipment for the next 2 - 3 weeks. As soon as you have signed ownership of your rented 4x4 vehicle the tour will start in all earnest. We will leave the Spa or Game farm and drive through Northern Cape Province in South Africa which you will find very attractive and enchanting. We will stop over and experience some South African Hospitality at the wine farms along the Gariep River in the Northern Cape.

Our first stop over will be in Upington which is about 800km’s / 498miles, we will book in at a 5 star lodge will ensure a good nights rest and some well deserved food. Our first days drive is the longest for the trip as from here we will only travel a maximum of about 400km’s or 240miles per day. But our days will be filled with many unbelievable scenes and experiences that will last a lifetime. Around Upington before leaving for the Border post with Namibia we will visit the Augrabies.

This tour will take you from the Southern Tip of Namibia at the Fish River Canyon which is second largest Canyon in the world through the rugged Namib Desert. We will encounter the wild horses at Garub which is about 80km’s from the coastal town of Luderitz. From here we will visit Sossusvlei which is about 400km’s from Luderitz and spend 2 days at this incredible natural phenomenon. At Sossusvlei we will climb dune 45, ride quad bikes, do hot air ballooning and enjoy some of the most unique cuisine in the world. You will walk in the Sesrien canyon which is small in comparison to others but rich with history and wildlife.

From Sossusvlei we will depart to Swakopmund which is a small but unbelievable German town which over and above its rich history, truly has a mystical and very European atmosphere. We will stay in the Hansa Hotel which is the oldest but best kept Hotel in town with service that is out of this world.

From Swakopmund you will experience Walvisbay which has a large Seal colony and Flamingo colony. You will experience and discover life in the Namib Desert in place and ways that is unthinkable. From here you can also ad on a trip to Cape Cross which is home to a seal colony of over 2 million. You can also launch a day drive to Spitzkoppe which is an unbelievably big rock of a mountain in the middle of nothing and you can buy some crystals that are mined in the area. The opportunities on trips/tours from Swakopmund are endless and you may tailor your requirements in this regards. The Etosha Game Reserve is about 4 hours drive from here and well worth a visit.

From Swakopmund we can arrange for your flight back home or you may ad on to your trip a drive back to Oliver Tambo International Airport via Botswana which is a minimum 2 day drive and could be extended to include visits to game parks such as the Moremi. Savuti or Chobe in Botswana. Or you may want to see the Northern part of Namibia which includes the desert elephants or the skeleton coast.

The price for the self drive trips include the rental of the vehicle and equipment, all the accommodation, entry fees at game parks and it excludes fuel, road taxes, insurance and your airfare costs from and back to home.
